The Professional Groomer's Pocketbook 📖

A quick and condensed grooming guide packed with the key things every groomer should know!

What’s up Daily Groomers? Happy Friday!!

This past week has been jam-packed. Hershey has a hit - full of good shears, shampoos and seminars - basically anything a groomer could ever want. While everyone was at Groom Expo, we released the 2024 Groomer’s Pocketbook (did you see it?).

The reason we’re releasing it this week is because of my interview with Shannon O’Dore.

Shannon owns 7 Aussie Pet vans in the Tucson, Arizona metro and is a systems machine!

We had an engaging conversation that, honestly, got me rethinking a lot about the hiring & training process for groomers. (You can listen to the full interview with Shannon here)

Once hired (and trust me she’s ALWAYS HIRING), she has a full program that she runs each of her groomers through.

That way everyone is on the same page.

She has her “new pups” go through a six-week training period, where they get up to speed on all of their standards. She even has a guide she gives each of them to study!

It kind of hit me that this sort of guide should exist for all of us - whether you’re hiring or not. (solo groomers don’t you worry
this ones for you as well!)

So after many hours (and late night coffee runs), I’m excited to share the professional groomers pocketbook.

This exclusive Daily Groomer guide includes things like:

  • The different dog coat types (and what to expect when grooming each type)

  • How to optimize your grooming table for success

  • How to groom the top 10 most popular breeds

  • The top tools you should be using today

  • And much more! (wait till you see what’s on page 23)

Our last guide hit the 100 download cap in literally less than 6 hours.

This one, we’re not going to put a cap on it but we will give you the Doodle Grooming Playbook included as a bonus in the guide if you’re one of the first 100 downloads.

PS - I don’t want to give too much a way this week but we’re quietly planning our next grooming mastermind. This hasn’t been shared anywhere yet but if you want to join, here’s the early sign up link.

đŸ—Łïž What People Are Barking About

The best of the best advice shared this week online👇

We’ve all been there! Getting a dog’s coat thoroughly clean can be tricky, especially when you think you’ve done a great job, only to realize during drying that some areas weren’t washed as well as you thought. Fortunately, we stumbled upon this helpful discussion that provided plenty of tips and tricks to ensure every coat is spotless and how to tell when you're done in the tub:

  • Apply shampoo directly to the dry coat, let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub and rinse thoroughly.

  • Use rubber curry brushes to work the shampoo into shorter coats or double coats for a deeper clean.

  • Watch the water’s color while rinsing—keep scrubbing until it runs clear.

  • Double wash and allow the shampoo to sit for 1-3 minutes to break down dirt and oil.

  • Monitor the lather; more suds indicate cleaner hair. For extra dirty dogs, add Dawn soap (the kind they use for oil spills) to the first wash, with extra brushing.
