Welcome to The Daily Groomer, your best friend when it comes to professional grooming - or 2nd best friend if we’re counting dogs 😂.

My name’s Alex 👋

Here’s what we’ve got today:

  • 😳 The UK is banning breeds

  • 🤫 The secrets to stress free grooming

  • 💼 How to create a grooming business plan

😳 The UK has decided to ban an entire breed

The American Bully XL

England and Wales are set to ban XL Bully dogs by the end of this year.

The ban will make it illegal to breed, sell, advertise, exchange, gift, rehome, abandon, or allow XL Bully dogs to go stray.

Owners who wish to keep their XL Bully dogs must register them with the exempt list by the end of January and comply with strict requirements. These requirements include muzzling the dogs, keeping them on a lead in public, microchipping, and neutering.

This ban comes after UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, described XL Bully dogs as a 'danger to our communities' following a span of attacks involving the dogs over the summer, but he’s been met with quite the pushback.

We’re not here to say what’s right or wrong, but we are here to echo something so often said in our industry: It is never the dog’s fault!

If you think bad owners are to blame for bad dogs, you too can get involved. Check out a petition to stop the ban on the official UK Parliament website here.

🐕 It’s more than just grooming

We recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Chrissy Neumyer Smith, a master grooming behavior specialist and certified professional groomer with extensive experience in the industry. Her expertise and passion for creating great grooming dogs truly shines.

Here’s what Chrissy recommends to create great grooming dogs:

#1: Prioritize Customer Service and Safety

One of the most crucial points emphasized by Chrissy is the importance of customer service and putting the safety of both the customer's dog and the groomer first. She highlights the potential dangers of a dog jumping around during grooming, including the risk of injury and high veterinary bills.

#2: Explain the Risks and Tools Involved in Grooming

Chrissy draws attention to the fact that many non-groomers may not fully grasp the potential risks involved in grooming. Groomers use sharp tools to cut hair efficiently, which may not be obvious to pet owners. It's crucial to educate owners about the tools and their potential risks.

#3: Address Hesitancies and Fears in Dogs

Chrissy emphasizes the importance of questioning why a dog may have these anxieties and exploring different training perspectives to address them. By taking a compassionate and understanding approach, groomers can help create a safe and comfortable environment for dogs during grooming sessions.
