🙊 Groomer's Anonymous
3 anonymous questions asked by groomers... what would you say? 🤔
This newsletter is different.
There are 3 things we all know as groomers:
Doodles are hard.
Doodle owners are harder.
Keeping track of what everyone’s yapping about? The hardest. 😂
So we wanted to changed that. Usually we write about advice or how-to’s, but today we just wanted to share a summary of what everyone’s talking about.
We wrangled up some of the best questions floating around the groomiverse in the deepest darkest pits of the web.
Some are head-shakers 🤦♂️, some are belly laughers 🤣, and others you’ll have to read twice to even believe it’s true 😱
Ready to see what the grooming community is barking about??
Buckle up!!

👤 “If it's a long-haired husky, definitely over 100 .
Regular husky, you can get like 95% undercoat out with the force dryer and it doesn't take too long . I'd probably charge 75-100 depending on how many times I get donkey kicked lol”
👤 “I can’t imagine being so dimwitted that I’d get THREE dogs very well known for massive shedding…then complaining about the shedding. Sounds like she shouldn’t have gotten huskies. 🙃”
👤 “I have two huskies.
I blow mine out once or twice a week and line comb.
It takes me almost an entire workday to do them both. (I’m an owner not a groomer) I love spending that time with them and we only have to vacuum once a week.
I can’t imagine expecting to pay so little when huskies are just generally a lot of work. A neglected husky coat will be so much worse.”

👤 “I fire clients who are habitual offenders with no remorse. There's a few I've just blocked, so I don't have to even have the conversation as to why I'm not grooming Bella anymore.
I don't have a specific policy bc some people are legit airheads or just really busy . 1 of my clients misses 2 out of 3 appointments- doodle of course - bc she's a newly single mom who is the only doctor in her field in our area so I have tons of sympathy for her struggles to the point I want to offer to pick up and drop off her dog for her... but she also tips big due to guilt I'm sure lol
I think your policy is fine, although I'd probably lower the cancelation fee or at least allow everyone 1 warning.”
👤 “50% for under 24 hours notice, and 100% for no call no show. Has to be prepaid before I book them again. Emergencies do happen though, and I don’t charge in that case. If they it’s a pattern then I don’t book them and suggest they go elsewhere”
👤 “If you already have a written policy in place, print it out and put it up for everyone to see. Cancellations or reschedules within 48-hours result in a 50% fee, no-shows are 100%. If you’re able to keep cards on file, make sure that strike one results in invoice being sent and card being kept. Strike two results in deposits needing to be paid. Strike three means they’re not welcome back.”

👤 “I don’t even think bathing/drying/hand scissoring/dematting/deshedding a difficult great pyrenees in a single hour is possible. Not even the best of the best groomers could do that without taking short cuts/doing a shit job. That’s just outright not possible and whoever scheduled you that and the person backing them up are delusional. I’m so sorry you're put into this position.”
👤 “I love doing Pyrs. I would rather do them all day over doing a day full of shih tzus. However. 1 hour is no where near enough time. And your coworker telling you to basically stop complaining is just as bad. I would either take the overtime or reschedule the dog.”
👤 “OMG are you fucking serious? May I have her name and number please; I’d like to speak to her. Are you fucking Kim Possible ? Can you bend time? What a fucking asshole. If it was the only time the client had, the correct thing to was ask you. And then thank you for giving your extra down time. Maybe the dog bit her because he sensed her fuckery from jump. 🤔AND you’re disabled. It’s pretty amazing you’re a groomer, frankly. This is backbreaking and often thankless work. It will kick your ass to the door. (35 year vet here )
It will take half an hour just to prep, 45 minutes to bathe and power dry (if you’re greased lightening)”
